A friend just sent me this link to Gratitude Campaign.org – take a look. The story is that the Founder thought that it would be nice if civilians had a gesture or sign that they could use to say “thank you” quickly and easily when seeing military/veterans (he travelled a lot, so was often in the airport with military in uniform passing by) without even having to approach. It’s not limited to the military. There are lots of people who are serving their communities, from local to global. If you appreciate their service, give them a sign. Say “thank you from the bottom of my heart.” The movie (linked above) shows you how to do it simply.
